What is NGO?

NGO is a Non-Government Organization, and these organizations are nonprofitable. NGOs are independent of the Government. NGO plays an essential role for development at both the national and international levels. NGO helps in the growth of society and protect us from being harassed or misused by the community. NGO action includes environmental, social, advocacy, and human rights work. They work to promote social activities or political change on a large scale or very locally. NGOs play a crucial role in developing society, improving communities, and promoting citizen participation.

Roles of NGO

NGO performs several activities, but some of the important task they do at their risks are:

• Operation and development of society

The community-based organization can gain subdivide or develop the land by constructing houses, providing Infrastructure and run as well as maintain infrastructures such as public toilets, wells, or waste collection systems.

• Researching and Evaluating

Many Innovative ideas need to be supported. Innovative ideas and activities need to appropriately documented and shared, such that no one can copy that. NGOs help in suggesting where to get this documentation done. NGOs have an advantage of selecting places for the innovative projects and particularize the time for the project they’re going to support.

• Establishing Communication

NGOs use social or mutual methods for communication. They target on the right point where they can gain the trust of the people or companies they pursue to benefit. They can have an excellent method of suitability for the project they take up.
NGOs establish communication from the people to the Government or from the Government to the people. They tell the Government about what general citizens or people are thinking, doing, or feeling. And they inform citizens or local people about what government rights are and what they’re planning and doing.

• Assistance and Training

Training institutions and NGOs may form a technical assistance and training center and use this to assist both civilians as well as governments.

• Fighting with and for the rights of poor

In many cases, NGO becomes spokesman and leader for poor people and tries to influence government programs and policies on behalf of people. Therefore NGOs play an essential role in helping the poor and seeks to advocate on behalf of their side to implement government programs and policies.

Types of NGOs

There are two types of NGOs:

• Operational NGOs

The purpose of an Operational NGO is to work for the development and betterment of the city or country. They further classified as to whether they are religious or secular, and whether they’re public or private – oriented.

• Advocacy NGOs

The main purpose of an Advocacy NGO is to protect or promote a cause/law/ action. They try to raise knowledge, awareness about the specific program.

Problems faced by NGOs

• Relationship with National and local NGOs

One NGO collaborates with others to share information, ideas, and spread awareness together. But when they’re not collaborating and they both are working on the same projects. They see each other as rivals. They compete with each other for resources, support, public interest, and praise. The only way to overcome these problems is to collaborate and help each other in whatever we are doing. Phone calls, Emails, meetings are the best way to keep in touch and reduce conflicts between each other.

• Coordination efforts

As NGOs works together and build the trust of each other, they will have to coordinate with each other. Their exists conflicts when they are unable to get synchronized, and thus, they tend to blame each other for every mistake. We can overcome this in several ways:

 Sharing each other’s vision
 Common goals and coordinate their strategy to reach the target
 Coordinate outreach and education

• Addressing community needs

NGO should be able to address its mission and work on them as they’re working on a project. They should make out proper aspects and a way how to deal with their every situation. Sometimes, NGOs are unable to hear all the needs of the local people, while sometimes they are unable to fulfill it. It becomes difficult for them to survive as they’ll lose trust for every task they are not able to fulfill.

Conclusion

NGO is an excellent initiative and is working for the betterment of society. NGOs help people as well as the Government. There are several advantages and risks of NGOs, but they have to work together and fulfill the needs of the people.
